Malawi Mission 2006 pictures from June
Here is the building site where the 4 room, red brick schoolhouse will be built. Our donations were sent ahead which helped to purchase the supplies, i.e. bricks and cement etc. You can see the outline of one of the schoolrooms which is a good size. The hope is that the school will be ready by January. We worked by forming a chain gang with the children and passing the bricks which were stacked a few feet high in preparation for the construction workers to cement in place. It is evident by the progress that was made, and still is to be made, however it will take awhile for the schoolhouse to take hold. We had fun with the children singing and counting which was led by a young lady for Hosanna Church in Minnesota.
Further along in construction. You can see clearly here how the bricks were stacked, and later cemented in place. Bricks were very level. A good job was accomplished.
You can see the children clearly here helping. That is me with the brown hat, which I really needed because the sun was blazing hot. You can also see the bricks stacked ready for construction. The children were so keen to help and were very fast. The heat did not seem to bother them, but it sure did bother me.
I really like this picture, with the child watching the work. Just behind is a woman carrying water on her head, and one of our team, Shirley, wearing the red McGill shirt.
At the feast which fed 2000. We were only expecting 1000, however all were fed. One could learn from the instruments that were used to fashion drums etc.
Here we are walking across the African Plain to the boat, after the Feast Celebration. This was an awesome experience.
